No, raccoons are not charged with possession of drugs.
After an Ohio woman was arrested Monday during a traffic stop, officers returned to the vehicle to find a driver’s seat occupied by a pet raccoon with glass methamphetamine pipes in its mouth, police said.
“The raccoon has her mespipe,” you can hear the officer laughing on the body cam footage. “That’s proof now.”
When the officers robbed the pipe, the raccoon pulled out another pipe.
“Our officers are trained to expect unexpected things, but this is the first time we’ll find a raccoon with a pipe of methane!” Springfield Township Police Department said in a social media post.
The raccoon named “Crunchy” was unharmed. Officials confirmed that the driver had the appropriate documents and documents to own an Ohio raccoon where livestock is legal.
The incident led officers to further inspect the vehicles, and according to the department they discovered a large amount of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and three used methamphetamine pipes.
The vehicle was handed over after it was discovered that the registered owner had suspended his aggressive warrant and driver’s license. Victoria Vidal, 55, from Akron, was charged with three counts of drug equipment and was quoted for driving under a pause.
The department said Vidal could face an additional fee for possession of crack cocaine, which has pending the results of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. She was handed over to the police on an aggressive warrant.
The officer said on the video shard on the department’s Facebook page that he placed the raccoon in his carrier and contacted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to ensure that the chewiness was reinsured in a safer location.
“As always,” the department said, “We are committed to keeping our community safe. No matter what surprises come our way.”
