Baldwin Park Middle School was evacuated Thursday morning after employees refused to come out barricaded in their offices, police said.
At Olive Middle School, several police police cars and numerous officers were also seen. When students who were kicked out of classrooms gathered on the school lawn, parents lined up outside the school to welcome their children safely.
Police said the unarmed employee caused some kind of interference in the main office and barricaded the woman while refusing to come out just before 10am.
She is talking to authorities. Details regarding the nature of the interference were not immediately available.
A student who made it safely in the classroom said that school officials told him and his classmates to evacuate as they were finishing lunch.
“I thought it was a bomb threat,” David Vega said. “I was going to jump the fence, but then I shouldn’t have preferred to play safely.”
Students added that teenagers gathered quickly and safely when the SWAT team entered the school.
This is a developing story.
