Police say one person was killed and two others were injured during an overnight battle in Santa Barbara.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stab wound. The fatal stab wounds occurred as the city celebrated its annual Spanish-era Fiesta Week.
A walking patrol officer was flagged by someone who said he saw a man holding a knife in the 500 block of State Street before 12:30am on Friday. When officers went to investigate, they found three people stabbed in the area, including one lying on the ground.
Police provided emergency assistance to the victims until paramedics with the Santa Barbara Fire Station arrived on the scene. All three victims were taken to cottage hospital, police said.
Police say one of the victims of the stab wounds died from injuries. The victim’s name has not been pending notice of the following relatives: The other two victims are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Investigators arrested suspect Louis Gerrado Terrazas in connection with the stab wound.
Parts of State Street were blocked for several hours Friday morning as police washed the area down.
“Based on the original investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department, the incident appears to be isolated and there is no immediate, significant threat to public safety,” police said in a statement.
Authorities say the victim and Terraza may know each other, police said.
