One person was killed and five trailers were destroyed in a camper fire in San Bernardino Friday morning, officials said.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department responded at 5:44 a.m. to a report of a fire in the 2600 block of Pacific Street.
Police said the caller also believed someone may have gotten into the trailer where the fire started.
When crews arrived, they found three travel trailers on fire, with fire spreading to an adjacent unit.
According to the department, firefighters began an aggressive attack and the fire was finally extinguished about 15 minutes after they arrived.
During a search by rescue teams, an adult male was found dead in one of the trailers.
No other injuries were reported.
A total of five trailers were affected by the fire, with damage ranging from partial to total loss, authorities said.
Fire officials said the trailers at the location are part of the HomeKey program, a county program that provides temporary housing to formerly homeless people in the community.
“Residents evacuated due to the incident are receiving behavioral health, medical care, emergency housing placement, senior services, case management, food and other assistance from numerous county agencies,” the SBC Fire Department said. “You will also be provided with coupons that can be redeemed for clothing and personal items.”
Officials said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
