Four people have been arrested in connection with a coordinated “bank jugging” operation in San Bernardino County, authorities said after investigators pieced together surveillance footage that captured the crime.
Officers from the Chino Police Station responded to a report of an incident on October 10 in which the victim had cash snatched from his back pocket after he had just withdrawn money from a nearby bank.
Bank jugging is a term used to describe a crime of opportunity in which a thief watches a victim leave a bank or ATM with cash and then steals the money.
Authorities have not said exactly where the crime took place, but surveillance footage released by police shows the victim running away from the bank with two of the suspects’ cars following closely behind. .

Moments later, the victim, who was behind the wheel of a small, dark-colored four-door car, noticed that the rear tire on the passenger side was flat, pulled over nearby, and then stopped the car. I got out and checked the tires.

Afterwards, two suspicious vehicles were caught on a local home surveillance camera circling the road where the victim was inspecting his tires. Shortly afterward, two of the robbery suspects were seen walking down the street in different directions.
Unbeknownst to the victim, the suspect approached the male suspect from behind as he bent over looking at the flat tire, snatched an envelope containing cash from his back pocket, then immediately turned and fled.
Investigators and crime analysts can piece together footage from various cameras and use it to identify two vehicles involved in the robbery and arrest records identifying the individuals involved, according to a Chino Police Department news release. It is said that
It’s unclear how long it took to identify the vehicle and suspects, but authorities said all four people were arrested at two separate locations.
“The majority of the money was recovered along with additional evidence related to the crime, including a handgun,” police said in a statement.
No information was provided on the identities of the four suspects or what charges they may face.
