It’s a quiet time on the NFL calendar, but there’s still a lot to discuss.
The annual league meeting took place this week in Florida, where coaches, general managers and owners called out to discuss the future of the NFL.
Apart from talking to reporters, the league’s top decision makers will vote for new rules and guidelines suggestions.
As the meeting concludes, take a look at the approved rules changes for the 2025 NFL season.
Regular season overtime
Both teams own the ball in overtime during the regular season, which matches the rules of the postseason.
If the game is attracted after each team owns it, the game will die suddenly – the next score wins. Regular season overtime, unlike the playoffs, is 10 minutes before the tie is declared, if the score is still an even number.
Previous regular season rules allowed teams to own the ball first and end the game with a touchdown. The team first got the ball in overtime to 12-4 last season.
kick off
Dynamic kickoffs that keep players moving until the ball is caught have become permanent after being tested throughout the 2024 season.
However, there is one change. The ball spot on the touchback moves to the 35-yard line (as opposed to the 30-yard line) of kicks sent into the end zone.

Replay assist
The NFL replay assist system will be expanded in 2025.
This includes supporting the play officials whose flags have been thrown on purposeful ground, trolling passersby and pounding runners from boundaries. It is only used if the flag has already been thrown, and it is not permitted to throw a flag after the fact. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones has reported details of the new system.
No decision yet
Three of the hottest topics in the meeting were not voted: The Tush Push, Onside Kick Modifications, Playoff Reseeding.
Unstoppable for Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, Tush Push Play received mixed reviews throughout the conference. Finally, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the discussion was submitted until later.
According to Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the amendments to the onside kick rule will be adjusted in May and will be voted. Only three of the 50 onside kicks were recovered last season by the kick team.
Rapoport also reported that the proposal for the Detroit Lions, which was reseeded in the playoffs, surfaced and more debate took place in May. This allows wildcard teams to be seeded above the division winners, depending on the record.
The 2025 NFL Draft order is officially set following the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. All 32 teams stand here, with Tennessee’s Titans secured the top overall pick.
