Shortly after removing the 40-pound tumor, the Oxnard woman quickly became a groundbreaking moment in her life, from a life-saving surgery.
According to Ariana Hospital, Ariana Purid was on her way to Las Vegas when she felt a deep stomach cramp in April. After first brushing it for two days, I came back strong on my way back to Oxnard. According to a release from Cedars-Sinai media, the pain she was experiencing was “extremely unbearable.”
“CT scans at Pulido’s Community Hospital revealed a large tumor in the size of a large basketball in the size of a large ovary in Pulido’s right ovary,” said an official at Cedars-Sinai. “The surgeon removed the cancerous mass, but only to discover a small tumor in the left ovary, which was removed three months later.”
After the procedure, Ariana went back to work, but the life she knew continued for about a month before the sharp pain returned. This time I went to my left shoulder.
Another CT scan showed she had a third tumor, and then she explained that she was diagnosed with growth hypnosis syndrome, a rare condition when the tumor tissue continues to grow rapidly and uncontrollably, and they continue to push critical organs.

The third largest tumor found in Purid was then 22 cm and about 14 cm, located near the liver. Attempts to shrink the tumor through chemotherapy failed and continued to grow rapidly.
“The tumor was progressing so much that it was pushed against her right lung, essentially moving her heart to the left side under her armpit,” Cedars Sinai media said. “By May 2024, the tumor had reached 27 centimeters, weighing over 40 pounds, remained wheelchair-bound and relied on oxygen.”
At this point, the only option was surgery to remove the tumor. However, after multiple delays and six unsuccessful attempts to put Ariana under anesthesia, her original care team decided to discard all the procedures.
“They said the next best step for me is hospice care,” Ariana said according to a media release.
She and her family continued to seek other opinions and ultimately chose Dr. Christina Ferrone, chairman of the Cedar’s Sim’s Jim and Eleanor Randall Surgery Division.
Dr. Ferone quickly brought together a team of 13 surgeons, from cardiothoracic surgeons to liver transplant teams, and performed a complicated operation, if something was wrong, Ariana would die.
“Tumors are very large and heavy and involve such essential blood vessels, so damaging them is very difficult to repair,” Dr. Ferrone said. “Such injuries can lead to immediate death on the operating table.”

Still, Ariana was confident in her decision to take the procedure.
“It will be God that I can decide whether to go or stay at that surgical table,” she said. “I just had a really high hope and faith that I was trying to accomplish it.”
And let me do what she did. In fact, during the first half of the surgery, doctors only use local anesthesia, so Ariana’s breathing and heartbeat remained stable. In other words, she was still awake. Furthermore, due to the size and location of the tumor, Ariana was unable to lie down on the operating table, and was placed on a slope earlier in the surgery.
In the end, the entire procedure took 14 hours. Within a week of removal of the tumor, Ariana’s lungs had completely swelled, her heart returned to its correct location, and she was able to breathe herself for the first time in six months.
While she was scared of miserable health, Ariana’s boyfriend, Jeffrey Chavez, remained by her side. He surprised her at last year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
She clearly said yes.
Fast forward to June 21st this year, and the pair officially tied the knot. For the future, Ariana continues to closely monitor her health, but both she and her doctors know that she goes through a very difficult process and is now living her best life.

“When she returned to the clinic on the moon [after surgery]All the staff and I were surprised. [because] Just six weeks ago, she was in a wheelchair. Now she’s gone through the door,” Dr. Ferone said. “She is an incredibly strong woman and has an incredibly supportive family.”
“I feel really good. I feel like a new person and I see the world differently,” Ariana said. “Every day is a positive day.”
