The Ministry of Transport opened a new dash route in Pacoima on Saturday, providing important transportation services to residents of the northeastern San Fernando Valley.
To celebrate the new route, Dash Pacoima has offered free rides that last from Saturday until May 31st. The route will be fully provided with 14 battery-powered buses funded by the state’s Transformational Climate Community Grant Program, which also supports charging stations at Dot’s North Regional Busyard.
“The launch of Dash Pacoima is a major step towards transportation equity in Aleta, Panorama City and Pacoima,” said Councillor Imeldapadilla.
“…I would like to thank the beautiful Pacoima, the beautiful, greening Pacoima, and Radot for making this happen. This partnership shows what is possible when local governments and grassroots organizations come together to place the needs of the community first,” she continued.
On Friday, Laura Rubio-Cornejo, general manager of the Ministry of Transport, described the new route as a “exciting moment” for Pacoima.
“This new dash route provides vital connectivity to the amenities in the neighborhood and a wide range of transportation networks that are accessible and affordable. This is just another example of investment in the community and ensuring that all Angeleno have access to safe and reliable transportation,” Rubio Cornejo said.
Councillor Monica Rodriguez said she would work to secure funding for this second dash route, which has specific stops near the school and major destinations, ensuring that “residents, especially students, families and seniors, have the convenience of an affordable transport system that prioritizes their needs.”
Mayor Karen Bass said that local residents will “have access to all more reliable, cleaner and sustainable electric bus services that will encourage more access to all visitors to the San Fernando Valley over the next few years.
The San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Metro is a 6.7-mile rail segment with 11 new stations to be built at Van Nuys Boulevard. The aim is to further strengthen regional transport opportunities on Metrolink, Amtro and Metro’s G (orange) and B (red) lines.
Metro recently began construction of a G-Line improvement project. This will upgrade existing lines with grade separation and new aviation stations from van Nuys, as well as better signal prioritization technology and new gating systems.
Such a transport project is to prepare Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
