On Sunday, California Sen. Alex Padilla claimed he was about to ask questions when he was forced to remove Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem from a press conference held in Los Angeles last week.
Padilla recalls his side of the story when she appeared in CNN’s “The State of the Union,” and says that when she decided to attend Noem’s press conference on the recent immigration protests and riots in Los Angeles, she was already in the building for another briefing.
But what happened next, he said, “You can’t script this in Hollywood.”
“I wasn’t trying to confuse myself, either, and I don’t think I was,” the senator said. “I was simply asking questions, just like members of the press squad ask questions. Congress members, the senators, ask questions to do our job to hold the administration accountable.”

Padilla was handcuffed and temporarily detained by officers with the aim of opposing the unrest in Los Angeles and the attacks on Trump administration immigrants that sparked smaller protests around the country this month.

Video of the incident showed Padilla walking to Noem while speaking on the podium to attempt to scream at the secretary, but law enforcement intervened and forced Padilla to stop her advance.

Padilla was eventually taken out of the room, brought to the ground and handcuffed, the video showed. Fox News reporters attending the press conference said it appears that Padilla has been in custody for a period of time.
Padilla and Noem were to hold a meeting afterwards. Padilla’s office was called “citizens” and was described as “heartedly” despite strong differences of opinion between the two.

Padilla said in another Sunday’s television appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” he learned from a later meeting with Noem that there is “nothing substantial, useful.”
