Los Angeles officials will release a post-action report on the Palisade fire after federal agents have completed an investigation into the matter, Mayor Karen Bass announced Tuesday.
In accordance with state regulations, the city is required to complete a disaster report, but the US law firm in the Central District of California has requested that the city refrain from doing so for now. This request comes as federal investigation into the fatal flame continues.
“At the end of the investigation, the after-action report will be released in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice,” Bus said in a statement.
It is unclear that the exact federal investigation is expected to be completed. According to Bass, the report’s release has ceased to “avoid interference in ongoing federal investigations.”
This report is an internal document that includes information about firefights, lessons learned while responding to disasters, and ways to improve if similar outbreaks occur again in the future.
At least 10 people have been killed in the Palisades fire, burning more than 23,000 acres and destroying more than 6,000 structures on its relentless path.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but local and federal arson investigators said last month that they narrowed the scope to key theories about how it started. It is still unknown whether the flame was set intentionally or accidentally.
