The state’s parole board panel on Friday recommended parole for Patricia Krenwinkel, a former Charles Manson follower who serves life in prison for her role in the 1969 Tate La Bianca murder.
Krenwinkel, now 77, was convicted of seven counts of first-degree murder in 1971 for participating with fellow Manson family members Charles “Tex” Watson and Leslie Van Houten in the Aug. 9, 1969, killings of the seven-months-pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Thomas Jay Sebring, Abigail Ann Folger, Wojciech Frykowski and Steven Earl Parent and the next day, the murder of grocery store Leno and Rosemary La Bianca.
She was originally sentenced to death, but was reduced to prison life under the California Supreme Court’s decision that invalidated all death sentences before 1972.
According to the California Department of Amendments and Rehabilitation, the Parole Board’s recommendations are subject to parole hearings and reviews by Gov. Gaving Gavin Newsom.
According to Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records, the Parole Board panel recommended Klenwinkel’s parole in May 2022, but in August 2022 the parole grant was reversed by the governor.
