Animals with burn injuries from the Eaton Fire in Altadena are being cared for by Pasadena Humane.
Veterinary staff and volunteers are caring for pets and wildlife injured in the wildfires as emergency evacuation orders are issued, hundreds of structures destroyed and five people killed in the fire. Pasadena Humane said in a social media post that it was caring for dogs, cats and wildlife who were suffering from burns or dehydration.
Among the animals injured in the fire were an orange cat with burnt whiskers found outside by local residents, a white dog covered in ash with its paws burnt, and a small bird with burns on its tail. is included.
“We have adopted over 300 animals for the evacuation and our staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to help care for them,” the animal shelter said in a post. “We are starting to see more animals with burns and injuries. These animals are being treated in our intensive care unit. We provide painkillers, wound care, fluids and oxygen as needed. We offer them.”
The Green family remained behind to keep the fire away from their home and protect Altadena’s 110-year-old Christmas Tree Lane.
The Pasadena Civic Center has been designated as an evacuation site and is accepting small pets. Larger animals can be taken to the LA Equestrian Center. To help ease the influx of animals, Pasadena Humane advised evacuees to seek shelter for their pets with relatives and friends before bringing their animal companions with them.
Pasadena Humane said it is working with other animal shelters in California to help with the influx of animals in its care.
