PASADENA, Calif. (KTLA) – The Eaton Fire, which has burned more than 10,000 acres and killed five people, remained at 0% containment as of Thursday morning, according to Cal Fire.
As of the 4:30 a.m. update Thursday, the devastating fire had destroyed 972 structures. It is unclear how many of those buildings are residential or commercial.
Eaton fire victim dies while holding hose while protecting home
The Eaton Fire broke out near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in Altadena around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and has since burned much of the area due east of Los Angeles.
As of Thursday morning, more than 700 firefighters were battling the Eaton Fire. As many as 79 engines and nine crew members were assigned to the fire.

The following school districts will be closed Thursday, and some are already closed until Friday with annotations.

At a news conference Wednesday morning, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna called the situation surrounding the Eaton Fire, the second largest wildfire in the Los Angeles area, “very fluid.” An additional press conference was scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday.
As of 4 a.m. Thursday, mandatory evacuation orders were issued for the following areas:
East of Altadena Drive Quineloa Canyon Road Outpost Lane Glen Springs Coolidge Miranda Roosevelt Veranda Kenclair Foxridge Canyon Close Grand Oak North of New York Drive East of Altadena Drive West of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue North of Sierra Madre East of Allen West of Santa Anita Drive Arcadia – North of Orange Grove/Rosemead Boulevard. East of Lake Avenue. West of Missilinda Avenue
It was not immediately clear how many people were evacuated.
