Southern California residents are planning to travel abroad this summer or have not obtained a real California ID before the deadline, so they can apply for a passport directly.
A special passport acceptance fair will be held at the University of California Irvine University on May 10th. An appointment is required.
“These events are for first-time customers and children who must apply in person using Form DS-11. Adults who are eligible to renew their passport using Form DS-82 can submit applications online or via mail at any time,” the U.S. Department of State said on its website.
The real ID of California: knowing whether to miss the deadline
To apply for a passport, customers must bring documents certifying their identity and US citizenship.
Passports are also an acceptable alternative to obtaining a California Read ID. This is necessary to board domestic flights and enter safe federal buildings such as military bases and courts.
For those who are unable to create a date for May 10th, another passport fair will be held at UCI on June 14th.

UCI’s passport offices are open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm.
