Participants at Saturday’s military parade in the country’s capital are from every corner of the US, and Fox News Digital spoke to some of them to ask why they traveled from close to far and attended a unique event.
Some attendees were locals, while others drove hundreds of miles to watch an event celebrating the Army’s 250th birthday. Saturday is also flag day, and is celebrated annually in 1777 to commemorate the adoption of the American flag and the adoption of President Donald Trump’s birthday.
“For me, this is a sense of patriotism,” said one attendee in the Baltimore area. “We celebrate Flag Day, the 250th anniversary of the Army. It’s also Donald Trump’s birthday, coincidentally.”

Participants from across the country who spoke with Fox News Digital said they were there to honor our troops, but many said they support Trump as well.
“We don’t have much more time to come to DC to support our military than when we have a president like Donald Trump who really admires us,” said one attendee who traveled from Florida to parade. “There’s no time to come.”
“We’re very patriotic, so come here and watch it and just have fun,” said another attendee who traveled from northern Kentucky. “It’s Trump’s birthday, so that’s good too,” they added.

Many veterans were also present.
“I thought this was my last chance to see a parade like this,” said the 30-year Army veteran.
“Army celebration,” another veteran said when asked why he drove from Ann Arbor, Michigan to attend.

On the other hand, outside the parade boundaries there was a prominent anti-trump presence, but far less within the parameters.
Nevertheless, Fox News Digital spoke to several anti-Trump people who came inside.

“This is the sixth or seventh protest since Trump took office,” said one anti-Trump attendant who was in the parade. “It feels like (Trump) is trying to strut rather than celebrate the army. I don’t like putting our army on the forefront as if he’s celebrating a threat, like he does.”
