Peacock heated up some news from the press.
The streaming service announced Monday that “The Paper,” a new mock-mentary comedy show set in the same universe as “The Office,” will premiere in September.
Like its NBC predecessor, “paper” follows the hilarious trials and confusion of the office in another kind of paper business. Instead of selling paper like the Dunder Mifflin crew on “The Office,” “The Paper” is centered around newspaper staff.
“The Paper” includes “Office” fan favorites. Oscar Nunez plays Oscar Martinez. Nunes will be a regular in the series.
Esmeralda (Sabrinine Patch Ator), Oscar (Oscar Nunez), Ned (Don Holgleeson), and Aderola (Guvemi Solikmelo) will appear in the paper season.
Along with Oscar, Peacock says “The Paper” will feature the crew of the same documentary that filmed Dandler Mifflin’s Scranton branch.
“The crew is looking for new subjects when they discover the historic Toledo newspaper, the teller of truth, and the enthusiastic publisher trying to revive it,” Peacock said.
Greg Daniels, who helped with the US version of “The Office,” created “The Office” and “Nathan for You,” which developed “The Paper” as a co-creator, author and executive producer. Ricky Gelweiss and Stephen Merchant are co-creators of the original edition of “The Office” and are on board as executive producers alongside Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Bannijay America.
Peacock has yet to announce its official premiere date, but it was expected to drop more news about “The Paper” in the coming months.
