Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who was hospitalized during a visit to Luxembourg, underwent hip surgery early Saturday, a spokeswoman said.
“Early this morning, the Honorable Speaker Pelosi underwent hip replacement surgery and is recovering well,” her spokesperson Ian Kreger said in a statement. I am grateful to the staff.” We would like to thank the medical staff at Landstuhl Army Base and Kirchberg Hospital in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness. ”
“Speaker Pelosi enjoys an overwhelming amount of prayers and well wishes and remains determined to ensure that all Americans have access to quality health care,” it added.
The news came after Pelosi, 84, was injured Friday while visiting Western European countries with a congressional delegation. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.), who was also on the trip, said in an online post that he had fallen on the stairs.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said a group of 18 Luxembourg members will continue to participate in commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge until Sunday.
Pelosi was taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for surgery.
Pelosi stepped down from Democratic leadership last year to make room for the next generation, but remained in Congress. The California lawmaker was elected last month to serve his 20th term in the House of Representatives, maintaining a schedule that includes voting in the House, television appearances and international travel.
