The fast-spreading Palisades Fire has quickly burned more than 200 acres since erupting around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood.
Extreme wind events in Santa Ana are adding fuel to the fire. Wind speeds are expected to reach 160 mph in some areas of Southern California, and the National Weather Service calls the winds “life-threatening.”

A small wind-driven fire was reported on the Santa Ana Riverbed in Colton around 5 a.m. Tuesday, but was quickly extinguished. Meanwhile, communities in the mountains woke up to snow on Tuesday morning, and inland, rain forced drivers to navigate slippery roads.

“This is a pretty strange forecast,” KTLA 5 meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Tuesday morning, because of the combination of weather patterns.
