Police arrested and charged a man and woman who were seen in video throwing away kitten trash in a field on a swell day in San Bernardino.

The incident occurred on May 30th as Elizabeth Romeri and her friends were driving in the East 40th Avenue and Harrison Avenue areas. They soon found out that the couple had abandoned their feline in the dirt fields and pulled them to confront them.

Video footage taken by Lomeli’s friend Kossondra Villasenor showed the cat not leaving the cage immediately, so the woman tilted the cage sideways to keep her.

Upon confronting the suspected female, she urges Romeri and her friends to insist that her local shelter would not accept the cat and abandon her, while at the same time claiming that the cat is all the wanderings she has taken.

The suspect became combative and the fierce debate continued, causing the interaction between Romeli, Villasenor and the couple to heat up.

“We called you about the cat and you’re mad,” Vilasenoa can be heard saying. “You guys came to abandon your cat. It’s hot. This isn’t humane at all!”

As temperatures reached triple digits on May 30, 2025, a man and woman saw abandoning a cage full of kittens on remote San Bernardino land, the man and woman suspects threw away their luggage and dumped the drug after avoiding the San Bernardino drug on May 30, 2025. Rather than allowing the couple to abandon them, Romeri eventually took the cat to the cat. She pointed out that they wouldn’t even give her a cage, so she had to grab the box.

While she did so, the cat was believed to be a mother. As of Wednesday, she has not been found yet. Jaina Spagis, director of a local rescue group called San Bernardino’s Cats, said the search was being conducted on foot via drones and was augmented by passing from flyers.

Meanwhile, the kitten was taken to an out-of-state rescue shelter after Romeri and Villasenor reported the incident to San Bernardino City Animal Services.

“We were able to find three friendly kittens and cats in the area while we were looking, so we believe someone else has abandoned the cat here or the couple has abandoned the other cats in the area,” Spagis said.

San Bernardino police confirmed to KTLA on Wednesday morning that a man and woman who were arrested Tuesday night were arrested. Their names have not been made public, but SBPD said the men were from Riverside and San Bernardino women.

“Both were arrested and charged with abandoning animals. This is a misdemeanor,” said an SBPD spokesperson. “They were released and issued quotations on the date of the pending court, and the DA’s office has not reviewed the case.”

San Bernardino City Animal Shelter Director Chris Watson told KTLA that dumping animals in public spaces is a criminal act.

“This is an illegal abandonment of animals,” Watson said. “It’s illegal to abandon livestock, cats and dogs. You could face prison time, high fines and probation.”
