Din Jabbar, 42, is accused of deliberately plowing his pickup truck into New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m., authorities said. The FBI announced that the suspect was deceased.

Federal authorities and local law enforcement in New Orleans are also investigating whether Din Jabbar used a long rifle and fired into the crowd when he ran over the person, officials said in a statement about the investigation. Three senior police officers spoke to NBC News.
