The man suspected of shooting and killing two women on an Inglewood university campus was identified Saturday as 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa, a school guard.
Filming occurred around 3:45pm on Friday at Spartan College, about a mile from Lux. Police said the gunman entered the campus office and shot two employees.
Less than two hours later, police chased the suspect and arrested him in front of Pico Union Belendo Middle School, about 10 miles from Spartan University.
Both women were taken to Long Beach Hospital in critical condition, according to the LAFD.
Figueroa was booked to prison on Saturday in connection with the shooting. He will be taken into custody on $1 million bail and will appear on Tuesday before the judge is arrested.
Inglewood Mayor James Butts told NBC4 that one of the women is the university’s dean. The mayor added that the suspect targeted Dean. The second woman was identified as an admissions assistant.
Staff say they were celebrating employee thanks day when the shot rang.
Jawad Alamad, a school instructor, says he remembers the suspicious gunman as someone with “problems.”
“To be honest… I don’t think I’m the brightest person to him…and I think he has some issues, you know, but you know, I’m not a psychiatrist.
Police say the suspect worked at school for five years. The school said the suspicious gunman worked for a third-party security company.
“They are extremely kind. They’re always there when you need them,” Aramad said, explaining the two victims. “They are very active and just know you have a good personality.
The campus remained closed and counseling was being provided to students and staff.
“We are deeply saddened and upset by what happened. During this time, our thoughts are with two staff members and their families who are receiving medical care during this period. Counseling services and support will be arranged for students and staff over the next few days.
