Authorities are under investigation after it appeared to have threatened a group of Twitch Live Streamers on Sunday night in Santa Monica Pier.
The popular Twitch streamer, known as Cinna, Valkyrae and Emiru, was taking part in a weekly marathon stream in Los Angeles when the incident occurred. According to the victims, the suspect first introduced himself as “Russell” in their stream, then reappeared about 30 minutes later to raise the threat.
Police are allegedly threatened her life after the man confronted the chief, and she refused to give him a phone number.
In the live stream, you can hear that the man is threatening to kill someone. It is unclear whether the threat was directed at the streamer himself and anyone on the filming crew.
The streamer, with hundreds of thousands of followers, contacted the authorities immediately.
Santa Monica police confirmed that they had responded to the incident and received a report. Officers moved the woman to a safer location, but the suspect had already left the area by the time he arrived.
Police could not confirm how the threat was specifically directed, but said it was someone in the group.
In a statement, one of the streamers described the encounter as horrifying. “We’re very shocked…it doesn’t do justice about how scary it was,” she said.
The women pointed out that Twitch Marathon was intended to be a positive event, but they were left shaken by the encounter.
Police have not released any further details about the suspect, and the investigation is still underway. Anyone with information is advised to contact the Santa Monica Police Station.
