(KTLA) – Thanks to the swift action of the California Highway Patrol, Christmas Eve became a night of relief and joy for one Southern California family.
Multiple 911 callers reported a German Shepherd wandering in the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near Via Verde in Covina around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
As calls continued to come in, CHP officers from the Baldwin Park station sprung into action.
They found the wayward dog, secured it and secured it in the back of a police car, news video service KNN reported. The dog appeared confused but was otherwise in good health.

Officers found a dog tag with the dog’s contact information and contacted the homeowner in Pomona, about 10 miles away. It’s unclear how long the dog had been wandering.
Officers reunited the German shepherd with its owner, who seemed very relieved and ensured a happy ending.
The owners expressed a huge amount of gratitude off-camera, praising the police officers who worked hard to bring their beloved pets home safely on Christmas Eve, KNN reported.
