Authorities are searching for a man accused of crashing into a Long Beach apartment complex in 2022, killing a girl and her father.
Octavio Montano Islas, 26, is accused of killing Jose Palacios Gonzalez, 42, and his 3-year-old daughter Samantha Palacios while they slept in their home, Long Beach police said. He has been indicted.
On March 1, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Rose Street.
Surveillance video shows the suspect’s vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck, turning a corner, speeding down Rose Street and crashing into the apartment complex where the victims lived. Ta.
Jose was pronounced dead at the scene. Samantha was taken to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver, believed to be Islas, fled the scene on foot and has continued to flee the scene. Detectives believe Islas was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

“Samantha had her whole life ahead of her until Octavio Montano Islas maliciously cut it short,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn. “We cannot imagine the pain and suffering that Samantha and Jose’s families have felt since this loss, but we are determined to bring those responsible to justice. There is no way to know where Octavio is or where he went. If you know anything, please share that information with detectives.”
On January 15, a $10,000 reward was placed for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Iras is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. Police say he has a tattoo on his right forearm.
Arrest warrants were issued for him on two counts of felony manslaughter, one count of felony drunk driving, and one count of felony hit and run.
