Officers fatally shot deadly in San Bernardino after allegedly attempting to kill a juvenile boy, police confirmed Sunday.
The San Bernardino Police Station said it was 5:32pm when the dispatch received a domestic disturbance call in the 1000 block of North Mountain View Avenue.
Police said the suspect was a relative called to report that he was threatening to kill the boy’s son.
KTLA contacted the department and asked to clarify whether the boy was the caller’s son or the suspect’s son, but did not immediately respond.
“The dispatch received additional calls from uninvolved citizens reporting that an adult man was armed with a knife and chasing the boy on the street,” the department’s release said.
According to the first report, officers arrived and found the armed man explained to them on the phone. The suspect was not publicly identified on Sunday evening.
Despite giving multiple orders and appealing suspects to drop the knife, police said the man refused to comply.
The officers are said to have tried several escalation methods since then, including using tasers and rounds of “low lethal” bean bags, but the suspect ignored all commands and continued to resist aggressively.
Instead, police said the suspect began swinging a knife and tried to run towards the house.
It was at this point that officers fired the suspect.
“After the incident, officers recovered the knife and immediately began managing life-saving measures while the ambulances were on the way,” the release said.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital where authorities said he was later declared to have died.
The San Bernardino Police Station urges anyone with information about the case to contact Detective T. Montez at 909-384-5762.
