Poll reveals how much voters blame Newsom for California’s fire crisis on climate change

(NEXSTAR) – In the wake of the deadly California wildfires, a new poll reveals how Americans feel about the disaster that killed at least 24 people and reduced entire neighborhoods to charred rubble. It was shown that it was responding to

An Emerson College poll of 1,000 registered voters found that a majority (58%) said they believe climate change is contributing to wildfires, while 42% disagreed. I answered.

“Young voters are most likely to say climate change is the cause of California’s wildfires: 74% of voters under 30, compared to 70% of those in their 30s and 61% of those in their 40s. , 48% of voters in their 50s, and 53% of voters 70 and older,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of the Emerson College Poll, said in a news release.

The lawsuit alleges that Southern California Edison equipment caused the Eaton fire.

The historic wildfire was caused by a combination of powerful Santa Ana winds of about 160 mph and dry vegetation.

John Abatzoglou, a climate and fire scientist at the University of California, Merced, said climate change and the increasingly common causes of fires in the Los Angeles area, including dry conditions in the fall and winter, extreme wind events, and large amounts of dry fuel, have contributed to the fires in the Los Angeles area. He says there is a clear connection between the two situations.

What do you think of Governor Newsom’s response to the fires?

In the wake of the Palisades fire, President-elect Trump immediately singled out Governor Newsom and his crisis response work and called for action from California politicians.

In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Newsom said Trump (whom he derogatively refers to as “Gavin Newscam”) has politicized the disaster and “intimidated our first responders.” “It’s happening,” he accused. California’s governor and other local officials asked President Trump to review the fire’s impact and thank first responders.

But questions about the state’s fire response aren’t just coming from Trump and his supporters. Newsom himself called for an investigation after fire hydrants in wildfire zones lost water pressure just when firefighters needed it most.

California lawmaker: ‘Climate change has wreaked havoc on us’

Just 30% of voters surveyed by Emerson College approved of Newsom’s handling of the wildfire response, 42% disapproved and 28% were neutral.

“The governor’s approval highlights the stark partisan divide in perceptions of the response, with 61% of Republicans and 43% of independents disapproving of Governor Newsom’s response to the wildfires,” Kimball said. 49% of Democrats support it, compared to 49% of Democrats who support it.”

Newsom announced an executive order Sunday that streamlines the rebuilding process for people who have lost their homes.

Tuesday’s fire destroyed more than 12,000 homes, cars and other structures, officials said.
