As President Donald Trump celebrates the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army by holding an event on Saturday, the new referendum shows that more Americans are likely to approve than they disapprove the president’s decision to hold a military parade.

But six in 10 Americans are concerned about the costs of the parade, saying that government money “doesn’t work,” according to the Associated Press Norke Center for a Public Relations Survey.

Trump, who marks his 79th birthday on Saturday, will be giving a speech during a parade held on Saturday night along the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Defence officials say about 6,600 soldiers will march in the parade, with about 50 military aircraft and 150 vehicles, including tanks, rocket launchers and missiles. The Army says it is spending between $250,000,000 to $45 million on paying for the parade.

Trump defended the cost of the parade, saying in an interview with NBC’s Match the Press last month it would be “peanuts compared to the value it does.”

“We have the greatest missiles in the world. We have the greatest submarines in the world. We have the greatest army tanks in the world. We have the greatest weapons in the world. And we are going to celebrate it,” the president said.

However, some in Congress have criticized the parade, saying that they can spend their money better.

“If we really want to celebrate military families, we can spend $30 million on helping them offset the costs of childcare, food aid and tuition,” said Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a military veteran who lost both legs in the battle while piloting the military’s Black Hawk helicopter during the Iraq War.

“But it’s not. Trump is throwing a $30 million birthday parade just to stroke his ego,” Duckworth insisted.

According to polls, 40% of adults across the country approve military parades, 29% disapprove, and three in 10 people are not approved or disapproved.

There was a partisan disparity where two-thirds of Republicans approved the president’s move to hold the parade, and half of Democrats were expected to disapprove.

However, in another question, 60% of those surveyed said holding the parade was not an effective use of government funds, and 38% disagree.

Almost two-thirds of Republicans said holding the parade was a valid use of government funds, with eight in 10 disagreeing.

The parade will be a unified celebration not only for thousands of people present, but also for Americans across the country who can take part in honoring active duty military personnel, veterans and fallen heroes, the White House said in a statement.

Democracy, progressive and labor activists are planning protests in all 50 states on Saturday, in line with Trump’s military parade. Many have been part of a series of “king” protests across the country, with over 1,500 meetings scheduled this weekend.

However, organizers oppose the holding of a major protest in the country’s capital, and instead host the main event in Philadelphia.

A poll conducted June 5-9 shows that 39% of questioners who approved the work Trump is doing in the White House, with six in 10 people giving thumbs down to the president.

The survey had an overall error of either positive or negative 4 percentage points.
