The grieving family of a 13-year-old boy who police say he was murdered by a youth soccer coach expressed his frustration Wednesday after the suspect’s arrest was postponed.
Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, who was already under investigation on two other sexual assaults, appeared in court Wednesday after being charged with murdering Oscar’s “Omar” Hernandez. The new date for Garcia Aquino’s arrest is set for June 18th.
Hernandez’s body was found in a ditch in Oxnard last month. His family had reported that he went missing on Sunday, March 30 after he failed to return from a visit with a Lancaster/Palmdale area coach and failed to answer the phone.
The teenage mother was in downtown LA Court Sauce, lamenting that her young son was just too long.
“My son will never come back,” Mom said as he cried. “My son won’t be back, but what I want is justice. He needs to be charged. It’s been taking it long enough.”
Omar’s mother, who calls Garcia Aquino a murderer, says she lives in pain that is incomparable to nothing, and says her lame grief has ruined her life.
“That kind of guy is dangerous to the community. He should, in my opinion, be locked up forever,” said Luis Carrillo, Omar’s family lawyer.
Garcia Aquino is also facing another charge arising from alleged sexual assault on February 22, 2024 in Palmdale.
“Garcia Aquino has become friends with Sylmer’s family who allowed the boy’s son to stay with him at his residence in Palmdale,” Luna said.
The lawsuit filed last month saw Garcia Aquino being charged with a single count of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance claim that the murder took place during another violent felony committee, including robbery and rape.
Garcia Aquino faces six years in prison for sexual assault, at least without the possibility of parole on murder charges.
LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who announced his office was seeking the death penalty again, said he would consider seeking Garcia Aquino’s death penalty.
