Just five days before Christmas, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would appoint Brian Birch, an outspoken conservative and Catholic poll director, to be the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican.
The Vatican, also known as the “Holy See,” is the center of the Roman Catholic Church, led by Pope Francis. There are approximately 52 million Catholics in the United States
Mr. Birch, a father of nine children, is an outspoken supporter of the president-elect. His organization, the conservative activist group Catholic Vote, issued its first presidential endorsement this year in favor of Trump.

In a post announcing his nomination, President Trump praised Birch for the large increase in Catholic voters in November, saying, “Mr. Birch represented me well in the last election, receiving more votes than any other presidential candidate in history. We got the Catholic vote!”

Birch responded to his nomination by posting on X: “Glory to God.”

He thanked his family and the CatholicVote team and gave special thanks to his recently deceased father, who “taught me to love the Church and the blessings and responsibilities of being an American citizen,” he said. .
