President-elect Trump and Biden reacted to former President Jimmy Carter’s death on Sunday, with Trump saying “we all owe him a debt of gratitude” and Biden paying tribute to a “dear friend” expressed.

Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a peanut farmer whose vision of a “competent and benevolent” government propelled him to the White House, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. He was 100 years old.

“I just heard about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to serve as president understand that this is a very special club. Only we can understand the responsibility for ‘history,”’ President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a critical time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude. are.

“Melania and I have the Carter family and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” the president-elect said. added.

President Biden echoed this sentiment, saying, “The world has lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian.”

“For more than 60 years, we were honored to call Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But the great thing about Jimmy Carter is that there are many people across America and around the world who have never met him. “Millions of people likewise considered him a dear friend,” Biden wrote. “With compassion and moral clarity, he eradicates disease, builds peace, advances civil and human rights, promotes free and fair elections, shelters the homeless, and always cares for the least among us.” He worked to defend, save, uplift, and change the lives of people around the world. ”

Mr. Biden described Mr. Carter as a man of great character, courage, hope and optimism.

He also said he cherishes seeing Carter and his wife Rosalynn together, saying the love between them is “the definition of partnership” and their leadership “the definition of patriotism.” He pointed out that.

“While we will miss them dearly, please take comfort in knowing that they will be reunited and will forever remain in our hearts,” Biden said. “To the entire Carter family, we send our gratitude to them for sharing them with America and the world. To their staff, from the earliest days to the last, we send our gratitude to you. I have no doubt that they will continue to do a good job of carrying on their legacy.”
