President-elect Trump addressed the nation Tuesday for the first time since his November election victory was certified.
Trump held a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago home the day after Congress and Vice President Kamala Harris certified his Electoral College victory. President Trump took the opportunity to announce that he would spend $20 billion to build new data centers across the United States.
President Trump said $20 billion would be paid by DAMAC Properties “in a short period of time.” Trump and company owner Hussain Sajwani detailed that the investments would focus on Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.
Sajwani said the investment is aimed at accelerating the development of AI and cloud-based technologies.

President Trump also said his administration would adopt policies to expedite approvals for companies seeking to invest more than $1 billion in the United States, saying many international companies view U.S. regulations as a “quagmire.”

“If you invest more than $1 billion, we’re going to move them quickly through the environmental process,” Trump said, citing other regulations.

In a rambling exchange with reporters, Trump also touched on the Panama Canal, which he has expressed interest in retaking for the United States, and criticized President Jimmy Carter for selling the canal during his administration. Mr. Carter passed away on December 29th and is currently in state at the U.S. Capitol.
President Trump also announced plans to “immediately” rescind President Biden’s ban on new oil drilling, particularly on U.S. coasts. He said the administration is planning to “drill baby, drill.”

President Trump’s comments come as Biden issued an executive order at 11 a.m. Monday, just two weeks before the end of his term, aimed at limiting oil growth, preventing new oil production in U.S. coastal and offshore waters. It comes after the government announced a permanent halt to most gas drilling. 625 million acres.
