President Donald Trump announced Monday that he would forgive a former Virginia sheriff, convicted of receiving more than $75,000 in bribery in exchange for appointing a businessman as assistant deputy sheriff within his department.

In a true social post, Trump said that Scott Howard Jenkins, 53, of Culpeper, Virginia, was to report to prison on Tuesday, “I’ll live a great, productive life instead.”

Jenkins, a former Culpeper County sheriff, was convicted last year of one conspiracy over a program receiving federal funds, four honest service frauds, and seven bribery. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in March.

JD Vance writes about Trump’s process of “fixing” by prosecutors on January 6th to “unfair.”

In his post, Trump said the former sheriff and his wife were “trashed through hell by a corrupt and weaponized Biden.”

“In fact, at his trial, when Sheriff Jenkins tried to provide immune evidence to support himself, Judge Biden Robert Burrow allowed it, shut it down and then went to Tilade,” Trump wrote. “As we saw, radical left-wing or free judges in federal, city, and state courts prove how they feel, not what is mandated under the constitutional or rules of evidence.”

“This sheriff is an avid Biden Justice Department victim and doesn’t deserve a day in prison,” he added. “He was a wonderful man and was persecuted by the radical left “monster” and “dead left.” This is why, as President of the United States, I consider it appropriate to end his unfair sentence and give Sheriff Jenkins a complete and unconditional pardon. ”

Federal prosecutors alleged that Jenkins accepted cash bribes and bribes in the form of campaign contributions from co-defendants Rick Rahim, Fredrick Gunbinar, James Metcalfe, and five other people, as well as two FBI undercover agents.

In exchange, Jenkins appointed people who would pay the bes, as assistant deputy sheriffs, as sworn law enforcement positions, and issued them official Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office badges and qualifications, authorities said.

Prosecutors said none of the payers were trained and did not provide legal services to the sheriff’s office.

“If I could spend time with someone in the administration and lay out some facts with my lawyer, I would really believe them if they could hear the other side I couldn’t get in front of the ju apprentice. “If he hears the information, I think he’ll help me if he knows what I’m talking about.”
