President-elect Donald Trump said Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will be the “border czar” in his next administration.
“I am pleased to announce that former ICE Director and border enthusiast Tom Homan will be joining the Trump Administration in charge of our nation’s borders,” he wrote on his Truth Social site late Sunday.
Homan was widely expected to be given a role related to border issues and President Trump’s promise to launch the largest deportation operation in the country’s history.
In addition to overseeing the southern and northern borders and “maritime and air security,” President Trump has announced that Homan will “stop all deportations of illegal aliens to their countries of origin,” which is central to his agenda. I will be in charge.”
He said he had “no doubt” that Homan “will do a great and long overdue job.”
Such roles do not require Senate confirmation.
In an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” Homan said the military would not round up or arrest illegal immigrants in the country and urged ICE to carry out President Trump’s plan in a “humane manner.” He said it would move.
“This will be a targeted, deliberate operation carried out by ICE members. The men and women of ICE do this every day. They’re good at it,” he said. “Once we get out there, we’ll know who we’re looking for. Maybe we know where they’re going and it’ll be done in a humane way.”
Earlier this year, at the National Conservative Conference in Washington, Homan expressed frustration with coverage of a mass deportation operation.
“Wait until 2025,” he said, adding that he believes the government needs to prioritize national security threats, but “no one is off the priority list. If you’re in the country illegally… If so, you should look over your shoulder.”
He also said: Mr. Trump will be back in January, and I will be back to follow him and carry out the largest deportation operation in the history of this country. ”
On Tuesday’s first post-election show, the cast of “Saturday Night Live” sarcastically praised Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
