President Trump plans to sign an executive order on Tuesday, creating the White House Olympic Task Force, which will be responsible for handling security and other matters for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman was expected to join President Trump at the White House on Tuesday afternoon.
Wasserman thanked President Trump in a statement Monday, calling Los Angeles a “critical step” towards its third Olympics.
“On behalf of LA28, I would like to express my deep gratitude to President Trump and his administration, expressing my leadership and unwavering support. “Since securing this historic opportunity in 2017, President Trump has consistently recognized the magnitude of his responsibility to welcome the world in Los Angeles.
“The creation of this task force shows significant progress in planning efforts and reflects a common commitment to delivering the biggest game the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.”
Reuters reported that the task force includes members of the president’s cabinet and government agencies, citing the administrator. They will also coordinate federal, state and local government transport efforts, Reuters reported.
The task force says it will “rationalize visa processing and eligibility for foreign athletes, coaches, officials and the media,” according to a report shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
In March, the president signed an executive order establishing a similar White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. The group, chaired by President Trump, is coordinating with federal agencies in preparation for international football events, including games in Los Angeles.
The opening ceremony of the 2028 Olympics will be on July 14th, 2028, and will be competing until July 30th, 2028. The LA28 Paralympics begin on August 15th, 2028 and end on August 27th, 2028.
Last month, LA28 was the first to look at the Olympics competition schedule. LA hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984.
