As part of his efforts to “make America safe again,” President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to allow cities and states to take homeless people from the streets to treatment centers.

Trump signed an order Thursday afternoon to “End the Vagrants and Recovery.”

The order states that “the number of individuals living on U.S. streets over the Biden administration’s one night last year (274,224) was the highest ever recorded.”

Attorney General Pam Bondy directs the “judicial precedents and final consent law” that will stop or restrict cities and states from taking homeless individuals from the streets and moving to treatment centers.

It is unclear how much money will be allocated to the effort, but Trump’s order will redirect federal funds to allow homeless individuals to be sent to rehabilitation, treatment and other facilities.

Additionally, the order calls for Bondi to work with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Transport Secretary Shawn Duffy, prioritizing federal grants over cities and tracking “illicit drug use, urban camps, loiting and urban quotaders residents.”

The order also provides for discretionary grants for substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery programs that “do not fund drug infusion sites or illegal drug use.”

Speaking in March, Trump said, “We’ll have crime-free capital. When people come here, they won’t be robbed, shot or raped. They’ll have crime-free capital again.
