President-elect Donald Trump will pick up two Bibles during Monday’s swearing-in ceremony, the culmination of the 60th presidential inauguration.
According to a press release from the State of the Inaugural Committee, Trump used a Bible given to him by his mother in 1955 to “commemorate his graduation from Sunday Church Elementary School at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, New York.” He plans to do so.
This religious text was published in the 1953 revised standard edition by Thomas Nelson & Sons, New York. Trump’s name is embossed at the bottom of the cover, and the inside cover features signatures from church officials, the president’s name, and details of when the gift was presented to him.
In addition to the sentimental Bible, the Lincoln Bible, which was first used to swear in the 16th U.S. president in 1861, will also be used.

“Since then, it has been used only three times by President Obama at each inauguration and by President Trump at his first inauguration in 2017,” Trump’s team said. “This burgundy velvet-bound book is part of the Library of Congress collection.”
According to the Associated Press, President Obama also took the oath of office based on two Bibles in 2013. One belonged to Martin Luther King Jr., and the other was the Lincoln Bible.
