Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, and all other Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked consideration of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act from the floor.
The measure would require health care workers to save the lives of babies born from attempted abortions and ensure they are admitted to hospital.
“I have always stood on Roe’s side and on the side of women’s right to make their own health care choices. It is unreasonable to mandate criminalization for those choices, including the Living Survivor Protection Act. , any bill that does so is against the law.” No from me,” Fetterman declared in a post to X.

In a party-line vote of 52-47, 52 Republicans voted to block the bill from a vote, while 45 Democrats and two independent senators who are part of the Senate Democratic Caucus voted against the bill. voted to block the vote.
The bill’s language states that a health care worker who is present when a baby is born alive after an attempted abortion “must use the same level of professional expertise as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care provider to protect the life and health of the child.” Must demonstrate skill, consideration, and diligence.” Medical personnel perform procedures on other children born alive at the same gestational age and then “ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to the hospital.”
This measure specifically precludes prosecution of the child’s mother.
“The mother of a child born alive described in subsection (a) shall not be charged with any violation of this section, attempted violation of this section, conspiracy to violate this section, or any crime under section 3 or 4 of this title. shall not be prosecuted based on such offenses,” the bill’s text reads.

Pro-lifers condemned Fetterman’s position.
“You just voted against medical care for infants crying out for help after failed abortions. I’ve believed the leftist lie that it can be done. It’s pure evil,” Live Action President and Founder Lyla Rose declared in a tweet.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, included a handshake emoji between the words “Fetterman” and “infanticide.”
