First Fox: Former Ohio Republican Sen. Kevin Cofflin has exclusively spoken to Fox News Digital about his recent announcement that he is taking on the challenge of DEM. Rep. Emilia Sykes is one of the most common home districts in the midterm next year.
“The motivation is the same as the last election,” Cofflin, who lost to Sykes in November by two points in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, told Fox News Digital.
“I want to make a difference to people. I think our country is heading in the wrong direction. I think there’s a great opportunity here. And it’s very clear that there’s a close majority in both the House and Senate to push through America’s first agenda, hold on to the border, cut costs, cut costs, protect our community, and try to give attractive value when they have their comfortable people. A close majority. So I want to contribute to it and deliver for the people in northeast Ohio.”
Coughlin told Fox News Digital that Sykes is not serving the district well and when talking to the district people they tell him they are unhappy with her leadership.

“What they get with our current members of Congress is someone who is a partisan hack who does everything her party says to her at the expense of what’s right for our community and our district’s families and small businesses,” Cofflin said. “She repeatedly voted to extend Trump’s tax cuts in 2017, which would result in a significant tax cut for everyone. She opposed efforts to cut regulations and eradicate government waste and fraud.
Coughlin added that Democrats have been “a bunch of toddlers slap on the floor” since Trump took office, and “no more message now.”
“They are swinging not only for leadership, but for voice and message, and know the old sayings when your enemies are in their own, so don’t get in the way,” Cofflin said. “I think the best thing for us as Republicans is for them to continue moving forward the way they have been, and they are orderly moving forward with President Trump’s agenda, offering them a promise that they have been elected, and moving forward to serve the people they represent.

Cook’s political report ranks in the OH-13 race as Republicans “throw Democrats” towards the midterm, facing the traditional wisdom of Republicans having a small majority in the home and a powerful party fighting in the first midterm after the new president takes office.
Coughlin told Fox News Digital that he hopes Republicans will do well in the mid-term, especially in Ohio, where he scored 11 points in November.
“This week, we were encouraged by the results across the country with special elections in Florida and the voting issue for voter IDs in Wisconsin,” Cofflin said. “We say that our problem is that we’re still winning, because people are still watching and have the same concerns as us, so that’s a good thing.”
“What I saw this year regarding my opponent is that she’s even more partisan than before. She’s embraced the liberal left more vigorously than before. So she’s cast so many more votes from her level with the district. “I think it’s a bit insulated from the traditional midterm effect of the Presidential Party not going well in the election. Statewide elections will take place next year. And if we’re loyal to form, we have a slate of powerful, talented, well-known people running for offices across the state.
A spokesman for the Sykes Campaign dismissed Cofflin’s attack.
“Rep. Sykes focuses on how to cut costs, spend money in people’s pockets and protect the gains they’ve acquired, such as Social Security and Medicaid, and will force others to engage in call with counterproductive names,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman also introduced Fox News Digital in a quote from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). He calls Coughlin a “corrupted loser” so that he can work with Elon Musk to dismantle Social Security and remove Medicaid for billionaires’ tax credit payments.
“Rep. Sykes is a result-oriented leader with an undeniable record of fighting for Northeast Ohio, focusing on reducing costs, generating good pay and keeping our community safe,” added DCCC spokesman Viet Shelton.
“Emilia Sykes is nothing more than a rubber stamp on the far left that has not fully contacted the people of Ohio,” NRCC spokesman Zach Bannon said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “From voting to shutting down government, raising taxes and supporting open borders, Sykes is too extreme for Ohio. So she’ll leave her job next November.”
