Progressive Newark mayor Las Baraka, who was recently arrested outside the ice facility during the protest despite losing a bid for the Democratic governor’s nomination last week, is likely not to end in New Jersey politics, according to political strategists from both sides of the aisle.
According to a New Jersey political insider, Baraka could even be taken away by now democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Cheryl for the role of the state’s second-ranked lieutenant colonel.
Since Mayor Newark, Baraka has gained a reputation as a progressive one. However, his arrest outside a Newark ice detention facility on May 9th, driving him onto the national stage.
Baraka filed a lawsuit this month against a US lawyer for Alina Haba, New Jersey, condemning “false arrests and malicious prosecutions” in connection with the case.

He is one of several civil servants, including Democrats Robert Menendez, Lamonica McQuiber and Bonnie Watson Coleman, who is said to have passed through the gates of the facility along with a group of protesters.
Since then, the US lawyers’ firm has dismissed the lawsuit against Baraka “to move forward.”
“The day his arrest occurred,” Kenny Gonzalez, executive director of the New Jersey Republican State Commission, told Fox News Digital. [Baraka] He has become a New Jersey Democratic hero. ”
According to Politico, Baraka’s campaign has made the most of the moment and began sending fundraising messages to supporters.
Matt Friedman of Politico Reporter posted screenshots of text messages from Baraka’s campaign, which are listed on all caps, “Ras Baraka has been arrested” and “Ras was in Delaney Hall today asking for entry to the ICE detention centre where Trump and Maga extremists are illegally detained.”
The message continued, “Russ is ready to stop Trump and do whatever it takes to protect the New Jerseys from his extreme agenda. We need you more than ever. Donate now.”

“Almost all of the Democrat-elected staff members, including all his key opponents for the governor, called them some kind of fraud and said it was wrong,” Gonzalez explained.
“We believe this stunt is right to predict that it will actually boost him. That’s what I did,” Gonzalez said.
He said that while Baraka was in the distant third place in the early polls, Mayor Newark’s performance came in second with 20.6% of the vote, “it was really big news for the night.”
“Mikier Cheryl spent millions more than he did, and it’s no surprise that she appeared as the main winner. But Las Baraka was far third and he came in second,” Gonzalez said. “So the stunts definitely boosted him, and I think he remains extremely popular among the Democrats to this day.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Mikie Cheryl chose Las Baraka as her lieutenant governor candidate,” he said.
“He has a formidable performance and he is an African-American politician with very deep connections to many urban communities,” he continued. “Mikier Cheryl couldn’t even acquire a county in her hometown, so I think she should probably choose someone.”
Gonzalez is optimistic that Republican governor candidate Jack Ciatarelli, approved by President Donald Trump, can turn New Jersey governor over the red.
“What Las Baraka did was that he didn’t fulfill his responsibility as mayor of Newark… he placed illegal immigrants on Newark citizens,” he said. “There are many other issues New Jersey faces, such as high property taxes, dangerous neighborhoods, and funding ceremonies for schools that have not functioned for many years. So Common Sense voters think Rasbaraka should focus on his campaign a little more.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Hagan, a Democratic political strategist and advisor in New Jersey, told Fox News Digital that “Barakah certainly attracted attention, but also made sure to create a campaign that had impressive results for the vote on Election Day.”
Hagan believes not in Delaney Hall’s protests and arrests, but in Baraka’s success in “the willingness to undertake President Trump and his policies, but brings important frontline issues for Democrats regarding state education, affordability and quality of life.”
Hagan said he should at least be considered a potential candidate “certainly” based on the extent to which Baraka runs the campaign.
“But what’s important now is the Cheryl campaign, and lawmakers decide who will be her partner to see the path to victory in the November campaign, but more importantly, the partner who will govern in January,” he said.

As to whether Democrats can achieve a victory in November, Hagan noted that over the past 32 years, New Jersey has been ruled by Democrats for 16 years and by Republicans for 16 years.
“So from a partisan perspective, Democrats can’t take the obvious thing to maintain control of the governor’s office,” he said.
