More criminal charges were released Tuesday in connection with the violence that broke out during the protests of largely peaceful ice attacks in downtown Los Angeles. The crime included a June 8 altercation on 101 highways. There, rocks and other objects were thrown by law enforcement under the elevated tracks. Top LA County prosecutors said the suspect was a criminal opportunist “protest is a cover-up.” Other charges released Tuesday include counting felony attacks against police officers, and men were also charged in connection with vandalism and rotting in downtown LA storage for injuries or destruction using destructive devices identified as powerful fireworks.
More criminal charges were released Tuesday in connection with violence that occurred during the protests of mostly peaceful ice attacks, including rocks thrown in downtown Los Angeles and a crash lit by a California Highway Patrol SUV.
The charges released at Tuesday’s press conference included counting four felony charges from officers, arson and vandalism attacks against a 30-year-old man accused of an argument on a highway overpass on June 8th.
During demonstrations in the area, some people walked to the highways and others gathered on the elevated tracks. The video showed an object thrown by law enforcement stopped on the highway as officers tried to clean up people blocking traffic.
An anonymous tip led officers to throw a large rock at a police vehicle, illuminated the object to a fire before leading to a man suspected of being able to throw it under the elevated tracks in a CHP SUV. The man’s social media accounts appeared to display images of the confused scene, prosecutors said.
Other charges released Tuesday include felony assault on a police officer, including using destructive devices to injure or destroy a 23-year-old man accused of lighting a dumpster in downtown Los Angeles on June 8th. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said a powerful explosive could be killed or injured, and undercover agents saw fireworks at law enforcement officers.
The 34-year-old man is charged with a green laser pointing to a LAPD helicopter in San Pedro, while the 39-year-old is facing a second commercial robbery in looting the Apple Store in downtown LA.
The 30-year-old man arrested on downtown suspected of LA curfew violation faces felony possession of a firearm.
Protests over the ice attack are largely peaceful and concentrated in parts of downtown Los Angeles, near the federal buildings that include the federal detention center. Hochman described the suspect as an opportunist who used the protest to commit a crime.

“They do harm to legal protesters,” Hochman said. “Around 99.99% of those who protested did so legally, exercised their First Amendment rights and expressed their opposition to their ideas and government. We come to appreciate this when we think they are being rejected by other countries.
“These are people who have been hiding protests. They weren’t interested in protests. This small group, perhaps, hundreds rather than thousands, sees this as an opportunity.”
US lawyer Bill Essay said many of the people arrested were not from the Los Angeles area.
LAPD reported a crash in which rocks, bottles, commercial-grade fireworks and other objects were thrown into officers as violence broke out at some of last week’s demonstrations. Los Angeles declared a limited curfew on one square mile downtown after reporting looting and vandalism on June 9, including the Apple Store.
Hundreds of arrests have been reported since the start of the protests in early June, with the majority due to illegal legislative legislatures and curfews. Last week’s arrests fell every night, and no arrests were reported on Sunday, leading to a shortened curfew this week.
“You think Los Angeles is a war zone,” Hochman said Tuesday. “You can’t get far from the truth.”
Peaceful protesters were forced to leave downtown LA after “asgitators” began throwing things at officers, according to LAPD’s deputy director Emada Tingirides. The video aired on NBC4 News on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 at 6pm.
Arresting has been reported for more serious crimes, including assault on police officers, vandalism, looting, arson and other crimes.
Criminal charges related to the violence include two men accused of attacks, including Molotov cocktails, during protests in Los Angeles and Paramount.
Thousands of people gathered in downtown LA near City Hall on Saturday to meet elsewhere in the King’s protests.
The immigration enforcement project is part of President Trump’s massive deportation plan, a central focus of his campaign. A recent operation in Southern California has led to protests in Los Angeles, and President Trump has revitalized National Guard members and 700 Marines on the city’s federal property without demanding that they do so from local government and state officials and other cities around the country.
Local law enforcement agencies like LAPD have responded to protests and violence in downtown LA pockets near several federal buildings. The three judge panel will hear debate Tuesday about whether the Trump administration should return the National Guard command to California after thousands of people are revitalized in Los Angeles to protect federal buildings and personnel.
