According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors turned down a lawsuit against rapper Soulja Boy after being arrested on Sunday on suspicion of arms charges following a traffic stop in Melrose.
The DA’s office told NBCLA on Tuesday.
Soulja Boy, aka Deandre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a vehicle pulled by police around 2:30am on Sunday. LAPD did not say the purpose of the traffic halt.
While in the halt, police said a firearm was seen in the car. After the investigation, the rapper was arrested and booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The 35-year-old Chicago-born hip-hop artist is best known for his 2007 single “Crank That (Soulja Boy). The hit reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, winning a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song.
He owns the SODMG branded store in the 7400 block of Melrose Avenue, west of North Vista Street, which opened in January across the street from the original store on Melrose Avenue.
In July, around $10,000 worth of clothing and other items were stolen from the business.
