Many people gathered on Saturday to protest President Donald Trump’s agenda, according to NBC News.
Attendees at the protest at Lafayette Square Park in Washington, D.C., told NBC News that the treatment of Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who said the Trump administration was accidentally deported to El Salvador, was one of the issues that led them to take part in the demonstrations.

Samantha Echoles, the first protester in Silver Spring, Maryland, told NBC News. “You can not only determine what the law is, destroy people, punish people for opposition to you. That’s what a dictator does and you don’t want to see our nation slip in that direction.”
Concerns over the Abrego Garcia incident have been at the heart of similar protests in Midtown, New York, where thousands of people gathered to protest Trump’s immigration policies, according to a local NBC affiliate. One protester said the policy has created a calm effect on the entire city.
“People are scared of going to church. People are scared of going to work. People are scared of taking their kids to school,” said Amanda Harvey, a Brooklyn resident in New York.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the demonstration.
The nationwide protest is part of an effort that began earlier this month in a series of “hands-off” demonstrations across the country.
