Protesters held a rally in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to protest the Trump administration’s policy of not protecting citizens and immigrant communities.

Protesters said they are condemning the dismantling of federal departments and programs that support communities in need.

“Things don’t look very good, but we have to make the best [of it]said a protester named Perla, who works as a special education assistant for the Los Angeles Unified School District. “Don’t cut our healthcare, don’t cut social security. Don’t do that. Our children are in trouble. Our parents, even our elders, are in trouble.”

Perla said he is concerned that the administration’s focus on cutting federal programs will harm underserved communities.

“We’re here to fight because we can’t settle down,” she said. “When he became president, Trump changed so many things: immigrants, our children, students who are afraid to come in.

President Donald Trump has made some drastic changes since he began his second term in January. The Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an Elon Musk-led advisory body, has been working to significantly reduce the federal workforce and reduce government spending.

At the same time, the Trump administration says it will focus on cracking down on social security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits, but on scams, immigration, international refunds and crackdowns on wasteful government spending.
