The protests targeting Elon Musk and the government’s efficiency have grown on Monday, with hundreds gathering at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne over the weekend to express their opposition to the actions taken by the Trump administration.
The Saturday rally at Crenshaw Boulevard was held by Westside Democratic HQ in 5051, inseparable, with one of several Tesla dealers and showrooms across the country. The protest at SpaceX headquarters was called “The Destruction of Government by Elon,” and is a play of Musk’s Doge Agency words.
Protesters have carried signs containing a series of messages, from halting to Doge, from protecting trans rights to denounce President Donald Trump and Musk for their policies.
The government’s Department of Efficiency, created by an executive order by Trump on January 20, aimed at reducing federal spending by cutting federal programs and departments. Through mask advice, thousands of federal workers were fired and federal funds for social programs were frozen.
“I’m here to protest Elon Musk’s government takeover,” Marina Del Rey’s Nancy Polikov, 73, told the daily breeze on Saturday. “The loss of work has already affected people I know, and I think his whole purpose is self-dealing, so he will make sure that the institutions that regulate his business are shut down and tamper with government contracts to make sure that they are all in his favor.”
In addition to protesting the cuts and the funding freeze, Musk’s critics argue that his private companies, such as SpaceX, will bring conflicts of interest to their work with Doge. Musk and his company receive billions of dollars in government contracts.
Democrats have also challenged the cuts Mask is making, raising questions about whether Mask and his dog staff share more national secrets than volatile communication channels.
“An anti-democratic, not something I think this country was founded, so many crazy things happen. Zachary McKinnon, 31, from Long Beach, told the daily breeze. “Mask, he’s not elected. He’s basically a random billionaire who raids our taxes and uses them to make his own pockets even more fulfilling.”
The Trump administration argues that the country faces $36 trillion in debt and needs to cut federal spending. By creating Doge, Trump says his administration is finding wasteful spending in federal agencies.
But neither Trump nor Kuji has provided evidence of wasted spending or fraud on the institutions and programs they cut.
“We’re cutting the size of our government. Trump said at the first cabinet meeting of his second term. “We’re bloated. We’re sloppy. There are a lot of people out there who aren’t doing their jobs.”
Last year, Musk announced plans to move the headquarters of SpaceX, the spaceflight company he founded, to Texas.
More than 50 demonstrations were listed on the website Tesla Takedown on Saturday, with more planned in the US in the second half of March along with England, Spain and Portugal.
The news report showed a recent demonstration in US cities, including Tucson, Arizona. St. Louis; New York City; Dayton, Ohio; Charlotte; Palo Alto, California.
