Raging structure fire, explosion closes 10 highway lanes eastbound

A fierce fire erupted from the building next to the 10 highways in the palm of the hand, causing an explosion, which had a major impact on eastbound traffic on Sunday evening.

The Los Angeles Fire Department first reported the fire at 7:16pm, saying a major fire was appearing from behind a two-storey commercial building at 3387 Livonia Avenue.

The flame was measured to be about 50 x 100 feet when the crew arrived, and the flame exposed the vegetation on the side of the 10 highway.

The LAFD and the California Highway Patrol worked together to push traffic down from the fire, limiting eastbound lanes, resulting in slower westbound traffic.

In the 7:41pm update, LAFD said crews continued to fight the fire, measuring at 20 x 50 feet, and the explosion burst next to the highway, lowering the power lines.

Video from Citizen.com shows a fiery explosion beside the highway erupted just behind the “La CienegaBlvd¾mile” sign.

“Traffic on the 10 Expressway is affected by both smoke and emergency operations,” the LAFD alert said. “Drivers are encouraged to look for an alternative route between National Boulevard and Palms Boulevard.”

The LAFD announced that firefighters had knocked down the flames just before 8pm, saying the fire had stretched to the brush adjacent to the highway, creating a smokey condition requiring a shutdown of eastbound traffic.

“The building had an automotive business,” Lafd said. “And it is believed that the previous explosions are connected to the vehicle (probably the magnesium component).”

To eliminate the flames within 43 minutes, it required a total of 84 LAFD firefighters and two engines from the Culver City Fire Department.

Officials said the LA Department of Water and Power Department has been notified of arches and downwires.

“Firemen will remain at the site where overhaul and mop-up operations are carried out for an undecided period,” Lafd concluded.
