Senator Rand Paul said that despite discussing his concerns with President Donald Trump, it is against conservative value, that the increase in debt restrictions included in one big beautiful bill law is still breaking the contract for him.

Paul told reporters Monday that the bill would increase by $5 trillion, the largest debt increase in the United States.

“We’ve never actually raised our debt cap without meeting that goal,” he said. “So you can say it’s not going to be added directly to your debt, but if you add $5 trillion in the ceiling, it fills it.

“So I think it’s a terrible idea to do this,” he added.

Paul spoke with Trump about his concerns about the law that was under “long debate,” but Trump said he “had most of the talk.”

“I told him I couldn’t support the bill if they were together,” Paul said. “If they separated and removed the debt cap, I could have considered other bills.”

Paul pointed out that Congress voted to continue spending to avoid government shutdown.

“During the campaign, Republicans said they were opposed to Videnomics and Biden’s expansion and Biden spending. In March, we updated Biden’s spending levels,” Paul said. “So the spending level we currently live in is Biden Gopp’s spending level. They all agree.”

“But by the end of September, when the fiscal year ends, the deficit will be $2.2 trillion, which is not conservative,” he added. “They borrow five trillion yen. So they expect to go over two trillion yen the following year. So it’s not just conservative.”

Over the weekend, Trump warned that if Paul voted against the bill, it would “in the hands of Democrats.”

“If Senator Rand Paul votes against our great, big and beautiful bill, he is voting along with radical left-wing Democrats for a 68% tax hike and perhaps even more importantly, the first default on US debt,” he writes on the Truth Social Platform.

“Rand will be in the hands of Democrats and the great people of Kentucky will never forgive him! In addition to the growth we are experiencing, cutting costs later solves all the problems. America will be bigger than ever!” he added.

Next week, Senate Republicans will get their turn to pass the bill, repeating changes that could be a difficult sell for R-LA Speaker Mike Johnson.
