The billionaire businessman and 2022 Los Angeles mayoral race Rick Caruso announced Tuesday that he was opposed to recall efforts against the election winner and current Mayor Karen Bass.
“Recalling mayors right now is not a good idea. This is when Los Angeles needs unity. It’s not a costly and expensive political distraction.”
The base is under siege as the nearly 24,000-acre Palisade fire made the headlines for the nation as perhaps the most expensive natural disaster in history.
After 12 people were killed in flames that had become out of control for several days, they eventually destroyed nearly 7,000 structures, including homes and businesses.

Despite high warnings from weather officials that heavy winds create extreme fire conditions, recall efforts have been won among opponents who criticized the mayor for being in Ghana when the fire broke out on January 7th.
Firefighting was also hampered when the water supply stopped as crews tried to save the entire neighborhood.
Actor and special ambassador for Hollywood Mel Gibson, who lost his home to the fire, denounced Bass and Gavin Newsom as “incompetent” when he joined efforts to remind him of the California governor.
But Caruso says the recall is expensive and the city needs to move forward and rebuild.
“We have to rebuild our communities, bring people back home, open businesses that have been closed or lost. It must be our full focus. Politics has time and place, but not now,” Caruso said in X.
Rumors have swirled that businessmen and real estate tycoons could return to politics since 2024. There have been reports of another attempt to run for mayor or California governor when Newsom is released next year.
