Recalls issued for almost all CyberTrucks

On Thursday, US safety regulators recalled almost every cyber torque on the road. This is the eighth recall of a Tesla vehicle since delivery to customers began more than a year ago.

A recall of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which covers over 46,000 cyber trucks, warned that external panels running along the left and right scenes of the windshield can peel off while driving, creating a dangerous road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of crashes.

A stainless steel strip called a can rail assembly between the windshield and the roof on both sides is tied to the truck assembly with structural adhesive, the NHTSA report states. Remedy uses adhesives that have not been found to be vulnerable to “environmental vulnerabilities,” and includes additional enhancements, according to the NHTSA.

Tesla replaces the panels for free. The owner notification letter is scheduled to be mailed on May 19, 2025.

The 46,096 CyberTruck recall covers all 2024 and 2025 model years manufactured from November 13, 2023 to February 27, 2025. The NHTSA order says Tesla noticed the issue earlier this year.

Videos posted on social media show people ripping cybertruck panels by hand.

Cybertruck, which Tesla began delivering to buyers in the second half of 2023, has been recalled eight times over the past 15 months for safety issues. Last April, the futuristic look of the truck was recalled to fix an acceleration pedal that could potentially be trapped in interior trim. Other recalls were related to windshield wipers and display screens.

This is the latest setback for an electric car maker owned by Elon Musk, who has been under attack since President Donald Trump took office and Musk took office to oversee the efficiency of the new government, where Musk is cutting government spending.

No injuries have been reported, but Tesla showrooms, vehicle lots, charging stations and privately owned vehicles are being targeted.

Colorado prosecutors charged a woman last month in connection with attacks on Tesla dealers, including Molotov cocktails thrown into cars and the term “Nazi Scar” sprayed on buildings.

And last week, federal agents in South Carolina arrested a man who said they set fire to a Tesla charging station near Charleston. Agents of the Alcohol Bureau, cigarettes, firearms and explosives wrote in affidavit that authorities found books critical of the government in his bedroom and wallet.

Even before the attacks increased in recent weeks, Tesla has struggled, facing increasing competition, particularly with rival electric vehicles from China.

Though the recall announcement on Thursday has little impact, Tesla’s shares plummeted 42% in 2025, reflecting new pessimism as a sales crater around the world.

Regarding Thursday’s recall, CyberTruck owners can contact Tesla Customer Service at 1-877-798-3752 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Management Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov.
