Southern California is expected to see its first rain of the winter this weekend, but first it will have to weather a few more days of windy fire weather.
The National Weather Service warned that single-digit humidity and strong wind gusts will again create wildfire conditions Thursday into early Friday.
Wind gusts up to 90 mph are expected in parts of Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties on Thursday. The strongest winds are expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.
“Residents, especially those living in fire-prone areas and communities, are advised to remain vigilant and prepared at all times,” the NWS bulletin said.
The NWS Severe Fire Weather Warning was originally scheduled to expire Thursday, but was extended until 10 a.m. Friday.
The warning comes amid the most brutal and destructive wildfire season in Los Angeles history. Firefighters continued Thursday to extinguish the 10,000-acre Hughes Fire near Castaic Lake. Earlier this month, more than 10,000 people were left homeless in the Eaton and Palisades wildfires.
