Indiana Attorney General Todd Lokita threatens to sue two local jurisdictions in his state who refuse to comply with President Donald Trump’s massive deportation program for illegal immigrants. .

“This is an Indiana issue, especially since there is an Indiana law that says what you have to give, so whatever level of cooperation is permitted under federal law, you can do so by state or local It will be given as a law enforcement officer. “Rokita told Fox News Digital in an interview Friday.

“And that’s what’s going on here. That rebellion I need to look into now.”

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) have shown they will not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attacks.

IMPD chief Chris Bailey said local police are not authorized to enforce federal immigration laws and have no plans to take part in the immigration sweep. Similarly, IPS officials have announced that the district will not allow ice agents on the school premises without a criminal warrant.

“We have either pockets of elected officials, or officials who work for elected officials, or pockets that have their own ideas of what the law should be. That is, law That means not following the rules,” Rokita said.

Lokita urged IPS and IMPD this week to work with Ice or face legal consequences from his office. And it’s not the first time he’s sued jurisdiction in his state because he’s not working with federal officials.

Lokita filed a lawsuit last month against the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office and its sheriff William Redman, alleging that it had continued to refuse to comply with the federal immigrant detainee’s requests. The lawsuit alleges that between March and September 2024, nine detainee requests from the ice were not respected, preventing ice’s efforts to arrest illegal immigrants in the county.

As Indiana University and the local sheriff’s office refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law, Rokita said, “We’re going to be in court and we’re going to get an injunction for their bad behavior.” He said.

As the ACLU launches a lawsuit over Birthright citizenship, Trump administrators fight back: “We’re ready to face them.”
